With ever decreasing union membership and global economic pressure, bold steps are required to protect workers rights and increase organizing efforts. SEIU's focus on organizing seems to be the proper approach to the problem and while there might be some power issues involved, labor must make every effort to increase it's ranks while continuing to combat market forces.

It would be improper to view this announcement as a weakening of labor. SEIU and Teamsters will undoubtedly still stand together with their union brothers and sisters, while having the flexibility and resources to more actively pursue organizing efforts.
